D. H. Lawrence

David Herbert Lawrence o D. H. Lawrence (Nottingham, 11 de Septiembre de 1885 — Vence, 2 de Marzo de 1930) fue un controverso y prolífico escritor inglés, conocido por sus romances, poemas y libros de viajes. Lawrence pertenencia a la escuela modernista.

Su obra aborda temas considerados controversos en el inicio del siglo XX, como la sexualidade y las relaciones humanas por veces con características destrutivas y se extiende a prácticamente todos los géneros literarios, habiendo publicado novelas, cuentos, poemas, piezas de teatro, libros de viajes, traducciones, libros sobre arte, crítica literaria y cartas personales.

En conjunto, la obra expone una ensanchada reflexión sobre los efectos desumanizantes de la modernidade y de la industrialização. Los temas que Lawrence abordó hicieron la obra importantíssima para la compreensão de una época influenciada por Freud y por Nietzsche.

"El Amante de Lady Chatterley" fue prohibido en la época y pasó a circular clandestinamente. "El Arco Iris" fue considerado obsceno. Y "Mujeres Enamoradas" fue rechazado por los editores de Londres, sólo fue publicado cinco años después en Nueva York.

Además de escritor, Lawrence también era pintor y produjo muchas obras expressionistas.
